Why did he propose to resolve the Virginia Stamp Act?

stamp.jpgOn May 29, 1765, Patrick Henry and the Virginia House of Burgesses adopted four resolutions against the British Stamp Act of 1765. These resolutions were called Virginia Resolves. The purposes of these resolutions were to declare that Parliament did not have the right to tax the colonies. The Virginia House of Burgesses also declared themselves a separate realm of the British government. During Patrick Henry's speech people cried, "Treason, treason," because he criticized the British monarchies. The Virginia Resolves were important because they were the foundation for colonies boycott of Britain Trade, which led to the American Revolution.
